AI & Scale

How 6-7 figure founders should use AI to scale

Scale without AI is slow. Scale with AI and no strategy is reckless. There is a narrower, better path.

The founders sitting between six and seven figures face a particular tension. They have outgrown the stage where they can do everything themselves, but they have not yet built the team or systems of a mature seven-figure operation. AI has become the obvious answer to this gap, and for many, it is the right one. But the way it is used at this stage determines whether it becomes a genuine growth lever or an expensive distraction.

Start with the bottleneck, not the tool

The most common error we see is founders adopting an AI tool because it is popular, rather than because it solves their actual constraint. Before adopting anything, identify the single function that is limiting your growth right now. For most founders at this stage, it is one of three things: content production, client onboarding, or proposal and pricing work. Solve that bottleneck first.

  • Content bottleneck: use AI for first drafts, outlines, and repurposing, with a strict human edit pass
  • Onboarding bottleneck: use AI to build and refine client-facing documents and welcome sequences
  • Proposal bottleneck: use AI to draft scopes and pricing structures based on your existing successful proposals

The 80/20 rule for AI-assisted scale

A useful rule for this stage: let AI do eighty percent of the drafting on anything repeatable, and reserve the final twenty percent, judgement, tone, and final decisions, for yourself or a senior team member. This ratio protects quality while genuinely reducing hours. Founders who try to push past this ratio, letting AI make final decisions on pricing, positioning, or client communication, tend to see quality erode within a quarter, even if it is not immediately visible in revenue.

Building the right team around the tool

AI does not remove the need for a team. It changes what the team does. A founder at this stage typically needs one operations-minded person who can manage AI workflows, prompt libraries, and quality control, rather than three or four people producing content manually. This is a smaller, more strategic team, and it is usually more expensive per head, because the skill required has shifted from production to oversight.

What to look for when hiring for this role

Look for someone who asks good questions about your brand voice before they touch a single tool. The technical skill of using AI software is learnable in weeks. Understanding what your business actually sounds like, and protecting that under pressure to move fast, is much rarer.

Numbers that matter at this stage

Founders who have implemented AI well at the six to seven figure stage report saving between ten and twenty hours a week previously spent on drafting, research, and admin. The businesses that convert this into growth reinvest the majority of those hours into direct sales conversations and relationship-building, the two activities AI still cannot replace. The businesses that do not grow tend to reinvest the saved hours into more internal process, which rarely moves revenue.

The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance.

A caution on speed

Scaling faster is not always scaling well. AI makes it possible to publish more, pitch more, and onboard more clients in less time. It does not make it possible to deliver more without expanding capacity somewhere in the business. Founders who scale their marketing and sales with AI, without scaling their delivery capacity to match, create a bottleneck further down the chain, and it is usually a more painful one to fix.

Where to go from here

If you are at this stage and unsure where AI genuinely fits your operations versus where it is simply noise, it is worth mapping your current bottleneck with someone outside the business before you invest further. That single conversation often saves months of trial and error.
